Clenching and unclenching. Why am I still getting ads for foundation brushes on my Instagram?? I try to read and I can’t focus on more than a paragraph before I need to check the news, check Twitter, check what’s happening on the blank wall before me. There is a good video of a person dancing to "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield and I laugh, watch it three times and show it to my boyfriend. He laughs. We can still go to walks in the park, and he says I don’t have to turn away from the people as we walk past them, that a three metre distance is far enough. I can’t stop wringing my hands. My phone keeps dying. My boyfriend holds my foot and tells me we are going to make some things. I DM three people and to say are you okay?? I’m scared :( My boyfriend’s eye is really swollen. He says, ‘I’m not sure what’s going on with the old peeper’. Jennifer Ehle makes me cry. Day 3. Pema Monaghan (@pemamonaghan) is a mixed-race writer and bookseller from Australia. She has published work in gal-dem, The Lifted Brow, and Ache Magazine. Pema is one half of Takeaway Press, and the author of a pamphlet, The Last Word On Mum.
